ANN:3928 Fwd: Engl/Fr/Esp: Final Declaration of the Assembly of Social Movements in Dakar World Social Forum

{i} 25feb:: SPJ Invitation for the Public Hearing on Violation of Child Rights at Bijapur District

Dear Sir/Madam,

Greetings from Samajika Parivarthana Janandolona, Karnataka,

SPJ is a state level alliance of pro-people organizations and working on the issues of Holistic Child Rights, Malnutrition, Childhood Hunger, Right to Education and Social Justice. SPJ is working with Children, Women, Dalit, Adivasi, Religious Minorities, Disabled and Most Backward Communities. SPJ strongly believes and advocates that Common School System of Public Education in India is the master key for social transformation. SPJ is a member fo NAFRE People’s Movement at the National level which is a National alliance along with 17 State alliances in demanding the implementation of the Holistic Child Rights and Common School System of Public Education in India.

SPJ is continuously engaged with the child rights campaign and it has identified violations of child rights in Anganawadi’s, Schools and High schools, Primary Health Centers & Hostels. It is to be noted that 50% of our children are malnourished and almost 50% of our children drop out of school before they reach the 10th Standard. The nutritious food supplied in Anganawadi is causing indigestion, stomach pain and dysentery to the children. Due to this problem, Parent’s are not sending children to Anganawadi’s across Karnataka. The supplementary nutrition food has become cattle feed in many places. SPJ has conducted Public Hearings at Kolar, Raichur, Chikkaballapura and Davangere districts to bring to light the injustice and violations of child rights in Karnataka.

As a part of ongoing campaign, SPJ has organized a Public Hearing on violations of Child Rights – Malnutrition, Childhood Huger, Anganwaadi’s; Children’s Health, Primary Health Centers; Access, Quality of Schools & Hostels at Bijapur district.

To

All Civil Society Friends and comrades

Dear Friends

Greetings from Rev. Y. David, Convener, Conference against Warming The Globe

l, are working hard for years together to make this society a better
place for living and we look forward for positive changes in the
society for a better living. But what we experience today is total
devastation of humanity, environment and the entire universe. History
is recording the unprecedented events in its pages today. The
increasing temperature of the earth, global warming and climate change
threaten the very survival of the humanity.

Today, we have been moving from disasters to total destruction. The
Fourth report of IPCC clearly indicates that the earth will totally
lose its capacity to adapt to changing climatic conditions when the
temperature rises to another 2o Celsius. The increase in temperature
of the earth now is 0.74o Celsius and we are all quite aware of the
consequences of global warming today. When the temperature rise
reaches 2o Celsius, we will be totally facing major catastrophes and
destruction. If the present situation remains unchecked, we will reach
such a final stage in another 10 to 15 years.

The reasons asserted for global warming by the scientists are the
increasing emission of green house gases in the atmosphere. But the
deeper analysis of the socio-economic and political situation makes us
clearly understand that the present day trend of economic development
and “Grow or Die” development agenda is the main reason for our total
calamity. This major catastrophe is due to market based, profit
oriented growth interest of MNCs today.

The international summits and conferences that took place from 1992 to
2009 from Rio de Genero to Copenhagen were not very fruitful as
expected by the socially concerned people. No serious efforts have
been planned or taken to save the Earth from catastrophe. We are all
quite aware of COP 15 conference and its total failure. The National
Action Plan on Climate Change published by India does not give us very
high hopes to address the issues ahead of us. The carbon centered
violent growth pattern remains unquestioned. The interests of the MNCs
and their profit motive is protected and ensured by the existing
policies and the common people have no say or participation in the
process.

The problem of climate change and global warming are closely
associated with the future of ourselves, our children and
grandchildren.. The national and international initiatives do not give
any hopes but we are responsible to take up this international problem
and act locally in a swift way. We should take the lead role in
bringing out changes in political, economical and cultural planes.

The socially concerned people in Tamil Nadu, Southern most state of
India have come together to organize a massive three day Conference
Against Warming the Globe in March 2011 in Madurai. The group
comprises of socially committed people from different walks of life
such as lawyers, panchayat elected representatives, researchers,
academicians, noted Gandhians, faith based people, activists, Women
Self Help groups, farmers, unorganized workers, dalit groups, tribal
networks and students.

The three day conference starts with the massive rally with 3 lakh
people and general conference addressed by national leaders and
environmentalists. The next day is with approximately 70 theme based
discussions in on the themes related to climate change and its impact
on marginalized majorities such as women, dalits, children, small and
marginal farmers, adivasis, coastal communities etc., The parallel
events are exhibitions, documentary shows and cultural programmes. The
third day is planned with resolutions and Madurai Declaration to make
the voices of the common people heard in the policy making process.
The voices of people in TamilNadu will be heard aloud against the
present trend of development which is against Nature, all living
organisms in this Universe and marginalized people.

We are very much optimistic to bring in some meaningful impact after
the conference by the way people in all districts of TamilNadu are
working together to mobilize people, to discuss on the issue, to
prepare themselves for stalls in exhibition hall, to generate funds
and to arrange their logistics.

Finance committee of the conference has proposed a tentative budget of
80,00,000 rupees.

In this context, I would like to put forth the following requests to
you.
1) requesting you to participate in the Conference –all the three days

2) Requesting your friend circle to take active part in the process of arranging the
conference.

3) Making arrangements for your contact people and friends
to participate in large numbers

4) If possible, arrange a seminar on the theme” the role of
civil society in the context of warming the globe and climate change” or
similar topic

5) Any contribution to meet the expenses is most welcome

Yours in solidarity
