According to results available on Friday evening, the party was leading in over 20 constituencies and expected to win about 30 seats, edging out the ruling DMK to become the third largest party in the Assembly.

"DMDK will not be part of the Government, which we have clarified already," he asserted.

Vijaykanth also observed that the DMK’s loss was not only the defeat of the party, but also of Karunanidhi’s family. Quoting former chief minister and DMK founder C N Annadurai, he said, "The great leader once said that there is no party without country. However, the present DMK leadership has transformed the party into his family."
